4.12 Bookmarks

In addition to their existing personal objects such as the address book and calendar, each user has also an personal object called bookmarks. Similar to the bookmarking feature of browsers users can collect bookmarks in their bookmarks folder. Links to BSCW objects can be added using action menu Bookmark   . Bookmarks can be added by opening the bookmarks folder and then selecting  File    New    URL   .

Within the bookmarks folder bookmarks can be put into sub-folders, sub-sub-folders etc. For this purpose the respective sub-folders can be created within the bookmark folder via  File    New    Folder   .

BSCW bookmarks can be exported into the bookmark format of Netscape and then be imported into browsers compatible with the Netscape format (e.g., MS Internet Explorer, Netscape and Opera). This is done via action menu Archive   which creates an HTML file with the BSCW bookmarks. This file can be downloaded and used with the local browser. This export feature might be useful for users who have to use different computers frequently: whenever they access a new computer they can first download and install their BSCW bookmarks on this computer and thereby always have access to their personal bookmarks.
