7.5.2 Opening a folder to email upload

Email to a BSCW folder is only possible after the folder has explicitly been opened to email upload. Apply the action action menu Open to Mail   to that folder. When triggering this action you may define who exactly shall be permitted to send email to the folder. You may specify that

  • only members of the respective folder may upload via email,
  • only registered users of the BSCW server may upload via email, also if they are not a member of the respective folder,
  • everybody can send email to the folder.

Note: Please consider carefully, if you really want to allow non-members to upload to BSCW via email. Allowing all registered users to upload via email may grant this right to thousands of users most of which you probably do not know. Granting the right to upload via email to just everybody should be handled with extreme caution, since it opens a folder to junk mail and spamming.

After a folder has been opened to email upload, an email message may automatically be sent to the members of the folder. It tells them the email address used for uploading via email. The email address either has the form "bscw+folder-id@bscw-server" or "bscw-folder-id@bscw-server", depending on the mail system used for receiving the emails.

BSCW identifies the sender of an RFC 822 email object by its address. In case of an unknown mail address or missing rights it will be returned with a corresponding note. You should add further mail addresses, if you probably want to upload emails from miscellaneous mail accounts.

Of Course, email upload can be disabled anytime.
